If you are planning to launch a podcast, we understand how overwhelming and hectic it can be. Let us talk about some simple steps which might help you to organize and structure your podcast.

How to start a Podcast?

1) Develop a podcast concept

The very first step to create a podcast is to choose the right concept for your podcast. This is very important

to target the right audience and listeners. Define and outline your goals for your podcast. Some important questions/points to keep in mind while you are developing a concept for your podcast are:

  • Why are starting a podcast in the first place?
  • What do you want the listeners to gain from the podcast?
  • What genre do you want your podcasts to be, thrillers, motivational, entertainment, educational, etc.?
  • What do you thoroughly enjoy talking about?
  • What is your purpose to start a podcast?
  • What is the message you want to give your audience?
  • What impact do you want to make with your podcasts?

Answer these questions for yourself and then make pointers and a plan for your podcast. These questions will give you a base or foundation for your podcasts.

2) Pick a Podcast theme or topic

Now the next step is to decide on a topic or theme for your podcasts. You should choose a theme or a topic you are passionate about. Your theme and topics solely depend on your interests. If you pick a theme because it’s trending or has a popular ground for the sake of being famous or successful, that is the biggest mistake you are making. You should choose something which genuinely makes you excited and makes you want to create content.

Try to make it specific. If you want to attract a larger audience, be very specific about your niche. If you are broad in your niche, it will attract less audience. So if you are thinking that a broad niche will attract more people you are wrong.

Examples of some niches

  • Mental health for a specific group of people.
  • Thriller stories.
  • How to start a non-profit organization?
  • Specific educational genres.
  • Entrepreneurs’ habits
  • Book reviews
  • Movie reviews

And many many more. Choosing a specific niche will attract the right audience.

3) Name your Podcast

One of the most important features of your podcast will be its Name. The Name will be the one to make a strong impression on your podcast. It also sets the tone for your podcast. Your podcast names should include the following features:

  • It should be very specific and succinct
  • Available
  • Memorable
  • About your brand and niche

Once you have decided on the title, run the tilt through a podcast name checker to make sure that the domain is available. You don’t want to use someone else’s podcast name.

4) Choose your Podcast format

An organized format is needed to complement your podcast. Do you want to have a co-host or do you want to interview others? Do you want to go solo? You can choose according to your preference and style. Let us look at some formats:

Best podcast microphone

The very first equipment you need to record your episodes. A good quality podcast makes the editing process easy. Less background noise is recorded.

Dynamic or condenser

Dynamic mics are mainly for recording podcasts. They pick up low frequencies and have less sensitivity. This will record fewer background noises and other stuff.

Condenser mics might have more sensitive sensors and they record a lot of background noises which makes it difficult to edit.

XLR mics provide you with flexibility while USB microphones are less expensive and can be plugged directly into the control.

8) Choose the right podcast software
